HLN is a leading consultant to Health Information Exchange projects. We have brought together a team of distinguished professionals in the field who are available for consulting and advice. HLN has provided planning and technical expertise to several active HIEs, including state-level HIE projects, Beacon Community projects, non-profit Health Information Organizations, and vendors. By working with a variety of organizations and companies — even competitors — we offer a rich and varied perspective while respecting the proprietary nature of our clients' information. No project is too big or too small.

HLN has a long tradition of involvement in this field. We submitted a distinguished response to the January 2005 HHS ONCHIT RFI focused on models for RHIO implementation. We have been actively involved in the Direct Project, HL7, HIMSS, IHE, and Standards and Interoperability (S&I) Framework Initiative. HLN staff served as lead authors on the 2007 Vermont HIT Plan, one of the first comprehensive state HIT plans. HLN also serves as consultants to the SHARPS program at UIUC, one of four ONC-funded Strategic Health IT Advanced Research Projects (SHARP), and continue to collaborate with that team.

In addtion, through our work with the Public Health Data Standards Consortium (PHDSC), HLN advocates for public health's interests and participation in health information exchange. HLN staff members are active on various HL7 technical committees, projects, and special interest groups ensuring that public health's interests and concerns are well represented.

Finally, HLN developed a Web File Repository (WFR) to provide a secure, HIPAA-compliant vehicle for manual and automated file upload over the Internet.
