Following recent changes in the federal immunization landscape and input from the Immunization Calculation Engine (ICE) Advisory Group, HLN is reaffirming its commitment to supporting clinical best practices in ICE, its open-source immunization evaluation and forecasting software.
Due to shifts in ACIP’s makeup and processes, and the resulting divergence from medical society recommendations, the HLN ICE team will look beyond ACIP as its primary source of evidence-based guidelines. HLN will now look to new recommendations from professional medical societies for implementation in the open-source ICE default immunization schedule. This includes organizations such as the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), and the American College of Physicians (ACP).
For example, for COVID-19 recommendations for the 2025-2026 season, ICE will follow the guidelines issued by AAP and AAFP. These organizations’ COVID-19 recommendations are aligned and supported by other professional associations (AAP).
HLN is committed to supporting these critical COVID-19 recommendations in ICE’s next release. We also look forward to continued discussion with the ICE Advisory Group and with ICE users to uphold ICE’s role as a trusted source of immunization decision support.
