On April 28, 2026, HLN released a new version of the Immunization Calculation Engine (ICE) with updates to Hepatitis B and Polio clinical logic. ICE is a state-of-the-art, open source software system that provides clinical decision support for immunizations across Immunization Information Systems (IIS), Electronic Health Record (EHR), and Personal Health Record (PHR) systems.
What’s New in ICE:
- Hepatitis B: Transitioned from a 3-dose Newborn Series and 3-dose Child/Adolescent Series to a modified 3-dose Child/Adolescent Series. Added support for a new 4-dose Child/Adolescent Series.
- Polio: Added support for CVX 324 Poliovirus, inactivated, fractional-dose (fIPV) and added support for a new Polio fIPV Series. Updated handling of OPV vaccines to consider CVX 178 and CVX 179 as inadvertent and consider CVX 182 as inadvertent if administered on or after 4/1/2016.
The ICE Implementation Guide and ICE Implementation Guide Codes sheet have been updated to reflect these changes, including the new Hep B 4-dose series, removal of the Hep B 3-dose Newborn Series, the new CVX 324 code, and the new Polio fIPV Series.
