On August 18, 2026, HLN released a new version of the open-source Immunization Calculation Engine (ICE) software with clinical logic refinements and expanded configuration and output options.

What’s New in ICE?

Clinical logic updates

  • DTP:
    • Updated the DTP component of several combination vaccines to better reflect the component composition.
    • Refined primary series exception logic, including specification of Tdap when the adolescent Tdap dose has not been fulfilled and adjustments to select evaluation and forecasting intervals.
    • Updated the “Six by Seven Rule” logic to account for a 7-year minimum age and count only shots administered on distinct dates.
    • Refined handling of DT based on date administered.
  • Meningococcal B:
    • Added supplemental clinical messaging related to risk- and shared clinical decision-making indications.
    • Updated the forecast for patients who are complete to convey messaging regarding booster vaccination for high-risk patients.
    • Added support for CVX 164 (MenB unspecified) as a potential final dose in MenB series.
    • Enabled a 2-dose completion pathway in the MenB FHbp 3-Dose Series and the MenB 4C 3-Dose Series.
  • Pneumococcal: Refined clinical messaging to remove references to PCV13.
  • Zoster:
    • Improved support for CVX 121 (Zoster vaccine, live).
    • Added support for a new Zoster 3-dose Series, with historically appropriate CVX 121 considered as a (potential) Valid dose for target dose 1.
    • Updated the Zoster 2-dose Series: Added support for grace period on dose 1 absolute minimum age. Added support for CVX 188 (Zoster vaccine, unspecified) as a (potential) Valid CVX Code for the final dose.

Configuration option

  • Hepatitis B and Polio: Introduced a new installation configuration option to give users greater flexibility in setting the evaluation of off-schedule extra shots in the Hep B 3-dose Child/Adolescent Series and the polio series. When the configuration option is enabled, ICE will evaluate the extra shot as Accepted rather than Valid.

Schedule authority output

  • Added an optional feature to return the associated vaccine group schedule authority or authorities in forecasts, as indicated on the Clinical Guidelines page.
