We shared in January that HLN supported the CDC Foundation with compiling and developing public health informatics training resources to support Workforce Acceleration Initiative (WAI) placements transition into roles at health agencies across the country. As an update, the Public Health Foundation (PHF) reached out about collaborating to make newly developed resources more broadly available through TRAIN.org.
TRAIN is a national learning network hosted by PHF that provides learning opportunities for public health professionals. Hundreds of training partners have contributed more than 5,000 course offerings on diverse topics that are accessible online through a centralized hub to support workforce development. Many public health professionals have participated in various TRAIN offerings through the CDC, state and local health departments or other TRAIN affiliates.
HLN was approved to become a course provider and has made the U.S. Public Health Data Ecosystem training we developed for WAI placements publicly available to a broader network. This training offers an overview of the public health data ecosystem, including the core public health data systems and what they are used for, as well as examples of data flows and interoperability across various data exchange partners. This course is free and can be accessed by logging in to your (or creating a free) TRAIN.org account.
We hope you will share the course with interested colleagues new to public health or public health informatics, and we hope to expand HLN TRAIN offerings down the road.
This initiative was supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as part of a financial assistance award totaling $116,330, with 100 percent funded by CDC/HHS.
