In September 2024 the HHS Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy/Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ASTP/ONC) released the final 2024-2030 Federal Health IT Strategic Plan. A preliminary plan had been released in March 2024 and we commented on this earlier draft at that time. Not much seems to have changed of substance from the initial draft to this final version. It does appear, however, that an increase in emphasis on data quality was added to the final plan (for instance, see this added as a “purpose” on slide 3). There is also an increased emphasis on health IT modernization (see slide 23) within Goal 4. Public health data and systems continues to be addressed in Objective E of Goal 4 (slide 27) and there were no real changes there.
We feel encouraged by the strategy articulated by ASTP/ONC and hope for continuing progress over the next several years.
