HLN presented at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Data Modernization Workshop. The presentation was on integrated child health information system architecture models, using Rhode Island’s KIDSNET as an example. The talk included discussion about how such models can inform DMI, as well as considerations for such models in a DMI and FHIR-enabled world.

A national project has been underway to implement electronic case reporting (eCR).

On June 10, 2020 the US Senate released a white paper titled “Preparing for the Next Pandemic” under the signature of Senator Lamar Alexander of Tennessee. The white paper has five recommendations to address future pandemics based on lessons learned from COVID-19 and the past 20 years of pandemic planning.

Like many things in the age of COVID-19, the vaccine development landscape is unlike anything we have seen in our lifetimes. There are over 100 SARS-CoV-2 vaccines currently in development, many of which are utilizing new technologies not used in any currently licensed vaccine. The potential impact on immunization schedules (clinical guidelines for clinicians) and immunization clinical decision support is significant.

At the 18th FHIR Connectathon in Cologne, Germany on May 12-13, 2018, HLN successfully integrated its open source Immunization Calculation Engine (ICE) service with test instances of two Electronic Health Record (EHR) products, Epic and Cerner, using the CDS Hooks standard.
